POMATO Research Shared at the University of Burgos

March 16, 2026

As part of her secondment under the BIOREM project, Verna Katrin B. Cola of Wageningen University & Research (WU) took part in the lecture “Biocomputación: claves para interpretar datos metaómicos complejos”, held on 27 February 2026 at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Burgos (UBU), Spain.

This activity was organised as a knowledge transfer opportunity during her research stay at the host institution. The lecture provided a space to share research developed at her home institution, with a particular focus on work carried out within the POMATO project. During the presentation, Verna introduced elements of her proposed methodology for omics data analysis, especially those that may also be relevant to the types of data and scientific questions addressed in BIOREM.

The session created a valuable link between the two projects by showing how methodological approaches developed in one research context can also support work in another. In particular, the presentation highlighted analysis methods for microbiome and microbial consortia data, offering useful insights to researchers at UBU’s Science Faculty working with complex metaomics datasets.

The event was held in hybrid format, with an audience of approximately 20–30 participants, mainly from research and academic institutions. Beyond presenting technical content, the activity helped strengthen collaboration between WU and UBU.

By sharing approaches that are applicable across projects and disciplines, this lecture demonstrated the value of secondments in fostering collaboration, promoting knowledge exchange, and advancing innovative research methods for complex biological data.
