Centre for Plant Biotechnology and Genomics (CBGP) at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM-INIA/CSIC)

The Centre for Plant Biotechnology and Genomics (CBGP), a joint Polytechnical University of Madrid (UPM)-INIA/CSIC center, is a leading research institute in Spain focused on plant and microbial biology, biotechnology, and computational genomics. The UPM is a leading Spanish technical university specializing in engineering, architecture, and technology. It excels in research, innovation, and industry collaboration while participating in international projects and sustainability initiatives.

The CBGP group will focus on Cs/Rs pathogen characterization and on the development of natural and biocontrol solutions, particularly interference strategies to disrupt bacterial chemoperception. It will also conduct plant infection assays in its P3 laboratory facilities.

IRA contribute in collaboration with others partners to:

  • Examinate the soil and water management processes to combat desertification and land degradation,
  • Define indicators for qualitative and quantitative assessment,
  • Assess the impact of water harvesting structures using a participatory approach,
  • Disseminate the results for stakeholders.

“In a global scenario where bacterial plant diseases are expected to spread and intensify, new control strategies are needed to prevent resistance emergence. Targeting bacterial motility and chemotaxis mechanisms is a viable alternative to block pathogen entry into plants and halt disease progression.”

Meet our Partners

Led by the University of Burgos, POMATO brings together 16 partners from top universities, research organizations, SMEs, agrochemical companies, and farmers. Our international partners from regions severely affected by Cs/Rs, like Colombia and Ecuador, ensure that we exchange best practices and adapt solutions to different farming environments.
