Case Study #3

Location: Portugal

Crop: Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum)

Pathogen Target: Ralstonia solanacearum (Rs)

Overview

The main objective is to validate the Multiparametric Disease Detection (MDD) device for early disease detection under real world conditions. Due to strict EU biosecurity regulations (EU Regulation 2022/1193), the fields where Rs is detected are put under quarantine by the national competent authorities. F4S is in close contact with the Portuguese authority, Direção-Geral da Alimentação e Veterinária (DGAV), to help in the identification of fields with suspected Rs infections.

Experimental Field Trials
Portugal

  • Multiparametric Disease Detection (MDD) device
  • The validation takes place in two ways according to the availability of information:
  1. Real-time field testing: The MDD device will be tested in areas with suspected Rs presence to evaluate its effectiveness prior to the official infection confirmation.
  2. Historical data analysis: Evaluate the MDD´s detection models using historical images and information.

Objectives

  • Validate the detection method developed in POMATO.
  • Ensure compliance with EU plant health regulations.
