Case Study #4

Location: Poland (IHAR-PIB, Bydgoszcz)

Crop: Potato (Solanum tuberosum)

Pathogen Target: Clavibacter sepedonicus (Cs)

Overview

Due to strict EU biosecurity regulations, this case study is conducted in a secure, licensed experimental facility to validate early detection and bio-control solutions for Cs in potatoes.

Experimental Field Trials
Poland

Secured 400 m² plot at IHAR-PIB, Bydgoszcz
Susceptible and resistant potato varieties selected during the POMATO project
  • Two growing seasons (April/May – Sept/Oct)
  • 200 plants per treatment
  • Smart sensory polymers
  • Multiparametric Disease Detection (MDD) device
  • Two top-performing bio-control solutions (selected from prior trials)
Approved by State Plant Health and Seed Inspection Service (SPHSIS)

Objectives

  • Validate detection and control tools in highly controlled real-world conditions
  • Ensure compliance with EU plant health regulations
  • Compare responses across different potato genotypes
